Excavators are large machines that help us dig and move things, in the same way that a puzzle has pieces that are important for everything to fit together. Just as cars have wheels and an engine, excavators have unique parts that make them functional.
The boom is an important piece of an excavator. The boom is a long arm that the excavator can extend to reach very far away to dig or pick things up. It also goes up and down as well as side to side, so the excavator can work in all kinds of directions. The boom is attached to the cab – that’s where the person controlling the excavator sits. The cab is similar to the driver’s seat of a car, allowing the operator to manuever the excavator.
The bucket is yet another important part of an excavator. The pail is connected to one end of the boom and is employed to pick up dirt or other materials. Depending on what gets pushed through, it can be large or small. From time to time the bucket can be swapped out for other attachments, such as a hammer or a grappling hook, so the excavator can do different types of work.
The excavator requires tracks to move and to dig. The tracks are to the excavator what the feet are to a person, enabling it to travel on all different kinds of terrain. They’re driven by hydraulic motors, which rely on fluid to get mobile. Without the tracks, the excavator would be unable to move or get any work done.
Engine is another essential excavator component. Just as a car requires an engine in order to function, so does an excavator need a solid engine in order to work. The engine provides the power that drives the excavator to move and dig. Without it, the excavator could do no work at all.
